TasWater Applications in City of Hobart

Under the definition contained within the Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008 - 56W Structures over works, a Section 56W consent can be required when someone is undertaking works to:

• construct a prescribed structure,
• place any fill,
• remove any earth that supports, protects or covers TasWater Infrastructure,

either inside an easement to the benefit of TasWater and or within 2 metres laterally of any water infrastructure or sewerage infrastructure belonging to TasWater.

Under the definition contained within the Water and Sewerage industry Act 2008 and Water and Sewerage (General) Regulations 2009 only the following works are certifiable:

Where the proposed works will:

• increase the demand for water supplied by TasWater; or
• increase or decrease the amount of sewage or toxins that is to be removed by, or discharged into, TasWater's sewerage infrastructure; or
• require a new connection, or a modification to an existing connections, to be made to TasWater's infrastructure; or
• damage or interfere with TasWater's works' or
  - adversely affect TasWater's operations.

If proposed works do not fit into any of the above categories, you do not need to complete this form.

Under the Water and Sewerage Act 2008, the owner of a building or land may, after the completion of certifiable work in relation to the building or land, apply to TasWater for the issue of a Certificate of Water and Sewerage Compliance (Building) and/or (Plumbing) specifying that the conditions of the Certificate for Certifiable Work (Building) and/or (Plumbing) have been complied with and that the work has been completed substantially in accordance with the information or documents submitted.

Engineering Design Approval is required for connection, extension, expansion, and or alterations to water/sewerage infrastructure works that will be transferred to TasWater’s ownership.

The application must include the necessary details to enable the assessment of compliance with the codes, regulations, and any planning permit conditions (where applicable).

The works must be sufficiently detailed for a contractor to be able to carry out the work safely.

• Application for Amended 56W Consent
• Application for Amended Certificate of Water and Sewerage Compliance
• Application for Amended Certificate(s) for Certifiable Work CCW (Building and/or Plumbing)
• Application for Amended Engineering Design Approval

An Application for Planning Permit may be referred to TasWater if they are required to have input. Once the TasWater assessment process is complete, they will issue a Submission to Planning Authority Notice (SPAN) to the council which may include permit conditions for the Planning Permit.
